pop & contemporary percussion

This section includes all the non traditional styles. To name a few I can list: pop, rock, jazz, funk, soul, reggae, disco,...

These styles don't usually have strong roots in percussion. It means that most of the times we have to find the patterns, the colours and the instruments that fit the song, the style and/or the artist I am working with. The process is always a very exciting experience because it implies a very creative process and a good chance to better know musical personality of the people I am working with.

This is a list of the instruments I often use for this style:

  • Congas,
  • Bongos,
  • Timbales,
  • Djembé,
  • Darbouka,
  • Doumbek,
  • Flamenco Cajón,
  • Tambourine,
  • Shakers,
  • Chekere,
  • Maracas,
  • Chimes,
  • Güiro,
  • Bells,
  • Triangle,
  • Cymbals,
  • Udu,
  • Pandeiro,
  • Tar,
  • Riqq,
  • Special effects,
  • Electronic drums.

One of my favourites apects in this percussion field is to designe and create set ups that might suit your music better.
